Friday Flash Week 8 - 7th June 2024
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Winter has certainly made its presence felt this week with chilly mornings! We’d like to remind everyone to ensure your child’s winter clothing is clearly named. Our winter uniform is detailed in our uniform policy. It includes a school jumper or trackpants or plain royal blue. As the day warms up, children often take off layers, and named items help us return misplaced clothing quickly. If you’re missing any uniform items, please check the lost property trolley near the office.
As we approach the end of the term, we’ve noticed that some children are feeling the effects of fatigue and the seasonal increase in winter illnesses. This can sometimes make it challenging for them to regulate their behaviour and emotions. Rest assured, we are actively working with our students to support them during this time.
We are reminding our students that hurting others is never the right way to handle anger. Our young learners, though small, can have big emotions, and they are still learning how to navigate these feelings. We are teaching them alternative strategies for managing their emotions and reinforcing the importance of respectful and kind interactions.
We have also addressed behaviours such as “roasting” and “rizzing.” It’s essential for students to understand that teasing and degrading others is not acceptable, as it can be hurtful. We are encouraging positive and supportive communication among peers.
Additionally, we’ve discussed the risks of play fights turning into real conflicts. Our focus remains on fostering a safe, respectful, and friendly environment for all students. We appreciate your support at home in reinforcing these values and reminding your child to use the High 5 strategy which is in the school diary rather than their hands in resolving conflicts.
Our Student Code of Behaviour is in place to guide and support students in making positive choices. Consequences for not adhering to these expectations may include missing playtime, behaviour plans, or in some cases, suspension. We encourage families to continue promoting positive behaviour at home.
We are looking forward to seeing you at our upcoming Music Alfresco afternoon and the Think U Know presentations. These events are wonderful opportunities to come together as a community and celebrate our students' achievements.
Also congratulations to all of our students who participated in the 800m heats on Thursday afternoon. They all did so well and we were so proud of how all the students cheered and supported each other.
Warm regards,
Kelli Harvey
Principal

ThinkUKnow Australia is an evidence based education program delivered nationally to prevent online child sexual exploitation.
ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Microsoft Australia, Datacom and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The program is delivered in collaboration with policing partners New South Wales Police Force, Northern Territory Police, Queensland Police, South Australia Police, Tasmania Police, Western Australia Police, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.
The presentation will be delivered by a local law enforcement member and an industry volunteer. The presentation is pro-technology and addresses topics including self-generated child abuse material, online grooming, sexual extortion, and importantly encourages help seeking behaviour.
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about young people and the online environment, and how you can help them to be safe and responsible users of technology.

Expectation of the Week
We encourage parents to reinforce our focus expectation at home.
School Attendance
Our School attendance rate is currently 90.1%. Our goal is 95%.
Congratulations to 3C and 6A for having the highest attendance this week!
Please contact your year level Deputy Principal, if you need support with attendance at school. Unexplained absence letters are deployed twice a term. You can update attendance through the QParents app.
Payments Due
Statements will be sent home in the coming days. Statements indicate any outstanding amounts of money that is owing.
Statements also show if your child’s account has a credit. If you have an amount on the statement that has a minus sign in front of the amount, this means you are in credit. Eg -$10 indicates a credit.
Please DO NOT PAY. The credit can be used for any future or upcoming payments. You will still need to contact the office and request the credit to be applied to an invoice.
Student Resource Scheme
If you currently have a payment agreement (including paying instalments through Qkr!), your Term 2 instalment is due by 14/06/24.
Please ignore this reminder if you have already paid in full OR made Term 1 and 2 instalments.
