Friday Flash Week 2 - 7th February 2025
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
What a fantastic week we’ve had at ADSS! Today, we had the honour of presenting our 2025 school leaders with their leadership badges at assembly. We are incredibly proud of this group of students, who are exemplary role models for their peers.
Our student leaders meet weekly in Student Council meetings, where they provide valuable student voice and advocacy on initiatives they would like to see in our school. Over the years, student leadership groups have contributed to projects such as the development of school murals, updates to the school uniform, the purchase of new sports equipment, and updates to our Student Code of Conduct. Embedding student voice in our decision-making processes fosters a positive school culture and strengthens student engagement.
Homework Expectations
At ADSS, our homework policy focuses on encouraging students to engage in 20 minutes of reading activities each night. Home reading will commence next week, and we encourage all students to complete their 20 minutes of reading or Reading Eggs each evening.
Logins for Reading Eggs will be provided by your child’s teacher. Reading a book together or encouraging independent reading before bedtime is a wonderful way to support literacy and establish a calming routine. Please ensure your child’s reading is marked off in their diary each night.
School Pick-Up Zone Reminders
A friendly reminder to all families to follow the guidelines for our school pick-up zone to ensure the safety of our students and smooth traffic flow:
- Children should be dropped off and picked up in the designated car park zones, not at the pedestrian crossing.
- The school pick-up zone opens at 3:05 pm to allow time for students to walk down from their classrooms.
- Please be mindful not to block traffic outside the school gates.
- Parents are always welcome to park and walk in to collect their child if preferred.
Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe and efficient process for everyone.
Before-School Use of School Facilities
We love seeing students staying active before school, as healthy bodies help create better learners. Children are encouraged to engage in active play before class each morning.
For families with younger siblings who are not yet school students, please ensure they stay close by and are actively supervised. Our staff provide supervision for enrolled students only.
Flashtastic Fun Time – Fridays!
Each Friday afternoon, students who meet our learning engagement expectations enjoy Flashtastic Fun Time! It was wonderful to see some parents join in and celebrate their child's efforts this week. If you would like to get involved by setting up an activity or helping out, please chat with your child’s teacher.

Wellbeing and Engagement
This week, our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus is engagement in learning. We are using Doug Fisher’s engagement and belonging framework to help students understand what it means to be an active and involved learner.
Each morning during our morning circle time, students will explore what engagement in learning looks like and how it aligns with our Good, Great, and Soaring behaviour expectations. Our goal is to help them recognise what positive participation in the classroom looks like at each level and how they can take ownership of their learning.
We encourage you to chat with your child about what engagement means to them and how they can strive to be a Soaring Learner at school!

School Attendance

Our School attendance rate is currently 95.8%. Our goal is 95%.
Please contact your year level Deputy Principal, if you need support with attendance at school. Unexplained absence letters are deployed twice a term. You can update attendance through the QParents app.
Congratulations to Prep D and 4B for winning our attendance eggs this week!
