From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Winter is certainly upon us, with some chilly starts this week! Please ensure children are arriving at school with clearly named jumpers. As the day warms up, jumpers are often removed and left behind—having names on them helps us return them to their rightful owners quickly.

This week, I was away supporting beginning principals across the state in my role as an experienced Principal Mentor. While it’s always hard to be away from school, it’s incredibly valuable to share ideas and learn from other schools so we can stay aligned and continually improve.

On Friday, our Deputy Principal and I attended the Reading Leadership Masterclass, part of the Department of Education’s new reading initiative. We’re fortunate at Amberley District State School that our reading program has been grounded in the Science of Reading for many years. This means we are already well-placed, with only a few tweaks needed to ensure every student continues to receive best-practice reading instruction in every classroom.

Last Wednesday’s Music Alfresco was a huge success! I’ve heard wonderful feedback about the students’ performances. Our music program is just one of the many extracurricular opportunities we offer to enrich student learning and help them build their learning assets in meaningful, real-world contexts. A big thank you to our dedicated music teachers for coordinating the event—it gets better and better each year!

As we head into the final two weeks of term, there are lots of exciting events coming up. Please keep an eye on the school calendar so you don’t miss anything.

A kind reminder that on the last Friday of term, we will hold our Celebration of Learning. Classrooms will be open from 12:00–1:00pm for families to come and see the wonderful work students have been doing this term. We warmly invite you to join us!

Warm regards,
Kelli Harvey
Principal

School Attendance

Our School attendance rate is currently 91.5%. Our goal is 95%.

Students who have 95% or above attendance each term will receive a SOARING attendance certificate.

Please contact your year level Deputy Principal, if you need support with attendance at school.  Unexplained absence letters are deployed twice a term.  You can update attendance through the QParents app.

EcoMarines Board Game Donations

"Do you have any spare board games?

EcoMarines are looking for donations to start a board games and card game rental system in the school. The goal is to reduce energy usage in our homes, build our communication and collaborator skills, reuse and recycle items, and to help the earth! Donations can be dropped at the office, given to classroom teachers or to 5D classroom. We are looking forward to a new and exciting chapter with our ADSS families."
