From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and cosy pyjamas on display for Pyjama Day! The students had a fantastic time, and it was lovely to see some of our parents joining in the fun as well. These special events play an important role in building school spirit and student engagement.

📝 School Opinion Survey – Have Your Say!

Next week, the annual School Opinion Survey opens, and we would love your input!

This survey is an important tool that helps us understand what’s working well and identify opportunities to continue improving our school. Your voice truly matters.

Often, we only receive responses from a small number of families. To ensure we’re hearing a wide range of perspectives, we encourage as many parents and caregivers as possible to take part—not just to raise concerns, but to celebrate the great things happening across our school.

If you love something about Amberley—whether it’s our caring staff, engaging learning programs, or fun school events—please let us know! Your positive feedback affirms what’s working and helps guide our future planning.

Here are just a few ways your feedback has helped shape our school:

  • 💬 Improved communication with parents through regular updates and newsletters
  • 👥 Parent Consultation Group established to collaborate on school direction
  • 🌱 Upgraded playgrounds and improved school grounds
  • 📚 More engaging curriculum units with a focus on rigour in reading
  • 🎯 Updated Student Code of Conduct with clear expectations, increased rewards, and consistent consequences
  • 💛 Enhanced wellbeing and engagement programs with increased specialist staffing

Thank you in advance for taking a few minutes to complete the survey—we really do appreciate your time and feedback.

🚗 Car Park Safety Reminder

We’ve received a few concerns about unsafe driving in the school car park. Please help us keep everyone safe by:

  • Driving slowly and carefully
  • Following traffic signs and rules
  • Being mindful of children moving through the area

Your caution can prevent accidents and protect our little ones. If you witness unsafe driving, we encourage you to report it directly to Queensland Police.

Thank you for helping us create a safe, positive school environment for all.

Warm regards,
Kelli Harvey
Principal

Wellbeing and Engagement

Next week, our schoolwide behaviour focus is:
“We are friendly when we use empathy towards others”

This week, our focus is on being friendly by showing empathy towards others. At Amberley District State School, we encourage students to understand how others are feeling and respond with kindness and care. Whether it’s checking in on a friend, including someone new in a game, or simply using kind words, empathy helps build a supportive and respectful school community. Let’s continue to nurture compassionate learners who lift each other up! 💛

🤝 How You Can Support at Home
Families play a big role in helping children develop empathy and kindness. You can support this week’s focus at home by:

  • Talking about feelings—ask your child how others might feel in different situations.

  • Modelling empathy—show understanding and care when someone is upset or needs help.

  • Praising kindness—recognize and celebrate when your child shows empathy to a sibling, friend or even a pet.

  • Reading books or watching shows together that explore emotions and discuss the characters’ actions.

Together, we can help children grow into friendly, caring individuals who make a positive difference in the lives of others. 💛

School Attendance

Our School attendance rate is currently 90.8%. Our goal is 95%.

Students should who had soaring attendance for the term should have received a purple certificate today!

Please contact your year level Deputy Principal, if you need support with attendance at school.  Unexplained absence letters are deployed twice a term.  You can update attendance through the QParents app.

Congratulations 3C and 5A for winning the highest attendance this week!
