Friday Flash Term 3, Week 3 - 1st August, 2025
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
🌟 Principal’s Day – A Heartfelt Thank You 🌟
Today is Principal’s Day, and I want to sincerely thank our Amberley District school community for the beautiful cards, kind words, and warm wishes. Your thoughtfulness means a great deal.
While this day acknowledges principals, I couldn’t do what I do without the incredible support of our two Deputy Principals—Mrs Barb Christie and Miss Leisa Cave. Their unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and families is second to none. From early mornings ensuring every class has a high-quality teacher when people are away, to afternoons spent meeting with staff and supporting student needs, their dedication is exceptional.
Together, over the past five years, we’ve worked hard to build a strong and positive school culture, improve learning outcomes, and ensure Amberley District State School continues to thrive. I am truly grateful to work alongside such passionate and capable leaders.
📣 Industrial Action – Wednesday 6 August
Please check your email for information shared earlier this week regarding the proposed industrial action on Wednesday 6 August. If you did not receive this message, contact the school office and we will resend it to you.
🎵 Congratulations to Our Band Students
Our talented student musicians are progressing through their Band Karate program on their journey to becoming music ninjas! If you spot some colourful ribbons on instrument cases, don’t forget to celebrate their hard work and progress.
🚸 Road Safety Reminder – Travel to and from School
We’ve recently received reports of unsafe behaviour when travelling to and from school, including two students nearly being hit by a car last Friday. If your child travels independently by bus, bike, scooter, or on foot, please take time to speak with them about the importance of road safety. A quick conversation at home could make all the difference. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated.
Warm regards,
Kelli Harvey
Principal – Amberley District State School

Wellbeing and Engagement
Next week, our schoolwide behaviour focus is:
“We are LEARNERS when we take accountability for our actions”
At Amberley, we teach our students that being a learner isn’t just about knowing facts—it’s about growing as people too. This week’s Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus is on taking accountability for our actions. We support students to recognise their behaviour, take responsibility, and make things right.
This aligns with Wendy Fox’s PAUSE Program, which helps students reflect before reacting. When children Pause, Acknowledge their feelings, Understand what happened, Strategise a response, and Engage with empathy—they learn how to be responsible and respectful problem-solvers.
💛 How You Can Support at Home:
Talk about moments when you’ve made a mistake and how you took accountability.
Encourage your child to use the PAUSE steps when solving problems.
Praise efforts to make things right—whether it’s an apology, a change in behaviour, or asking for help.
Together, we’re growing confident, kind and resilient learners.
tand how others are feeling and respond with kindness and care. Whether it’s checking in on a friend, including someone new in a game, or simply using kind words, empathy helps build a supportive and respectful school community. Let’s continue to nurture compassionate learners who lift each other up! 💛
🤝 How You Can Support at Home
Families play a big role in helping children develop empathy and kindness. You can support this week’s focus at home by:
Talking about feelings—ask your child how others might feel in different situations.
Modelling empathy—show understanding and care when someone is upset or needs help.
Praising kindness—recognize and celebrate when your child shows empathy to a sibling, friend or even a pet.
Reading books or watching shows together that explore emotions and discuss the characters’ actions.
Together, we can help children grow into friendly, caring individuals who make a positive difference in the lives of others. 💛

School Attendance

Our School attendance rate is currently 90.7%. Our goal is 95%.
Students should who had soaring attendance for the term should have received a purple certificate today!
Please contact your year level Deputy Principal, if you need support with attendance at school. Unexplained absence letters are deployed twice a term. You can update attendance through the QParents app.
Congratulations Prep A and 5A for winning the highest attendance this week!
