Friday Flash Term 4, Week 4 - 31th October, 2025
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
🎃 Happy Spooktacular Friday!
Our students have had a busy week building on their learning in preparation for their final learning checks of the year. It’s important they finish strong and continue with their nightly reading to keep developing their skills and confidence in class.
📚 Learning in Action
Our Year 1 students headed off to Stallard Park this morning to apply their learning to real-life experiences. They’ve been exploring Built and Natural Environments in HASS, and this excursion was a great way to deepen their understanding and put their Learning Assets into action.
🍎 World Teachers’ Day
Today is Queensland Teacher Appreciation Day — and we truly have the most spooktacular teaching staff around! We’re so lucky to have such a wonderful, passionate, and dedicated group of teachers who go above and beyond for our students every day — often arriving before sunrise and staying late to ensure every child soars.
A big thank you to School Plus OSHC and our Tuckshop team for providing a beautiful morning tea for our staff to enjoy — it was greatly appreciated!
🧒 2026 Enrolments
We’re now at the business end of our enrolment season for next year. If you haven’t yet submitted your Prep enrolment, please do so as soon as possible. Enrolment numbers directly impact staffing, and we aim to finalise our high-quality teaching team before the end of the year.
We’ll soon be opening out-of-catchment enrolments for 2026 in Years 3–6, so please spread the word and contact the office for more information.
🕺 Flashtastic Friday Fun
Our Spooktacular Flashtastic Friday was full of fun, laughter, and creativity! The hairstyles were truly tremendous, and the students loved engaging in themed reward activities to end the week on a high.
🌿 Urimbirra Update
The Urimbirra project has taken a little longer than expected due to the weather, but we’re hopeful for a grand opening the week after next. We can’t wait to see students enjoying this special space once it’s complete!
🌧️ Rain Play Reminder
As we move into the summer wet season, a reminder that Rain Play is part of our Nature Play approach. Students can choose to play outdoors in light or moderate rain when it’s deemed safe. Please ensure your child has a raincoat or poncho and fully enclosed waterproof shoes (reef shoes or gumboots).
🥪 Tuckshop Day – Next Friday!
Next Friday we’ll be celebrating Tuckshop Day — and with our newly renovated Tuckshop opening soon, we’ll be sending out a survey to gather ideas for exciting new menu items!
Thank you for your continued support and for helping make Amberley District State School a place where every child can learn, grow and soar! 🦅
Have a great week!

Wellbeing and Engagement
🌟 PBL Focus of the Week
We are LEARNERS when we are engaged in our learning.
Last week, students focused on setting their individual learning goals using the PAUSE process to help them stay calm and ready to learn. This week, our PBL focus is on what it means to be engaged in our learning, using Douglas Fisher’s Engagement Scale to guide our reflections.
Douglas Fisher’s Engagement Scale helps students understand how deeply they are involved in learning — from being compliant (doing what’s asked) to being strategically and intellectually engaged, where they take ownership, ask questions, and connect learning to real-life experiences.
At Amberley, we want every learner to move up the scale — from doing the work to loving the learning!
You can support your child at home by:
✅ Talking about where they think they are on Fisher’s Engagement Scale today.
✅ Asking how they can move one step higher tomorrow.
✅ Celebrating when they show focus, curiosity, and persistence.
When students reflect on their engagement and take action to improve, they are showing what it means to be curious, courageous and self-managing learners who are ready to soar at Amberley! 🦅

Music

🎵 Spooktacular Sounds! 👻
The spooky spirit continued this week in our Instrumental Music Program, with our school band performing a spooktacular concert for our Year 3 students! This exciting performance gave students a sneak peek into what it’s like to be part of the band as we begin preparations for our 2026 Instrumental Music recruitment.
Learning a musical instrument supports many of our Learning Assets — helping children to be Collaborators, Communicators, Thinkers, and Self-Managers. It builds confidence, concentration, and perseverance, while also providing a wonderful way to make new friendships and feel connected across the school.
School Attendance

Our School attendance rate is currently 89.6%. Our goal is 95%.
This week's attendance winners are Prep A and Year 5A
Unexplained absence letters are deployed twice a term. Soaring Attendance Certificates are given out at the end of term for children who achieve attendance of 95% or above! You can update attendance through the QParents app.
